Project details

  • Client: Timaru District Council
  • Consultant: Beca (Dunedin)
  • Date: September – October 2009
  • Products: Rapid Repair and Armor

The contract works involved the high pressure water blasting (10,000 PSI) and application of Rapid Repair & Armor to the following concrete structures: Distribution channel, Bypass channel, Screen chamber, Screen chamber discharge channel.

With the project needing to be carried out within the operational treatment plant, in a staged approach, it was critical to be able to repair the damage without disrupting the plant during that time.

Rapid Repair takes just 17 minutes to set allowing for the rapid application of the product with minimum disruption. By fixing the existing structure, without impending the operation of the plant the Timaru Council was able to save money both operationally and forgoing replacement of the existing structure.

Due to the work being carried out within an operational treatment plant, the contract work was split into two stages with a timber wall to allow the refurbishment of each stage.
A variation was issued by TDC to extend the refurbishment work to include the existing drop chambers. A working platform was constructed within the drop chambers using full breathing apparatus to allow the application of RAPID REPAIR and ARMOR.

Timaru District Council required the product to be guaranteed for a minimum of 7 years.

Mastermix Armor has a projected design life of better than 50yrs in an sewer environment of ph 3.5!

In addition to the combination of Rapid Repair and Armor products life expectancy being overqualified by 43 years, Mastermix was also able solve the time and budget considerations
